Our
Programs:
English as a Second Language
This
program provides English language instruction based upon a
"survival English" curriculum, which gives students
the language they need to function in the U.S. on a day-to-day
basis. The core competencies of reading, writing, listening
and speaking are incorporated in the curriculum. Classes are
offered at several different levels to accommodate the needs
of different learners. A course specifically dedicated to
the pre-employment skills needed to succeed in the working
worm is also offered to more advanced students.
English as a Second
Language provides English language instruction for nonEnglish
speaking adults who are seeking greater potential for enhanced
academic and/or economic development. SER offers two sixteen week
sessions a year.
Registration:
Persons interested in taking ESL classes must fill out an
application form and take a pre-test. call us at 847-336-1004 for
more info.
Requirements:
Must be 16 years of age, and not enrolled in school. Must be able to
read and write in your language.
HABLA (Healthcare Access By Language Advocacy)
This program is a training
and service program to provide training in medical interpretation
and medical interpretation services to physician offices and
clinics. HABLA sends a trained medical interpreter to interpret at a
doctor's appointment for an individual with limited English
proficiency. Access to healthcare services
improves the health of the
individual and, ultimately, the community. HABLA is an outreach
program of the HealthReach Community Care Clinic.
World of Work
This program provides
Hispanic youth 14-21 years of age with the skills and resources
needed to overcome the barriers they face which impede their success
in school. WOW utilizes classroom instruction and a mentorship
program to empower youth to not only stay in school, but also
develop the life skills and job readiness skills needed to prepare
them for meaningful career development.
Fair Housing Center of Lake County
The Fair Housing Act of
1968 prohibits discrimination in housing because of' Race or Color,
National Origin, Religion, Sex Familial Status or Handicap
(disability). This program provides support and advocacy for
individuals or families who feel they have been discriminated
against in their attempts to acquire housing.
SERVICES
Youth on the Move

Specially trained project
staff will assist Latino youths with disabilities ages16-21 in
achieving success at school, work and in preparing for independent
living.
REDEVELOPMENT
The Fair Housing Center of Lake County
The Center is established
to provide education and outreach to the Lake County community
regarding the Fair Housing Act and to affirmatively further Fair
Housing practices throughout Lake County. The Center provides
advocacy and assistance through testing, investigation, conflict
resolution and/or referral for legal representation for any
individuals in Lake County who believe they have been discriminated
against in their efforts to obtain housing.
The Fair Housing Act
prohibits discrimination in housing because of race or color,
national origin, religion, sex, familial status (including children
under the age of 18 living with parents or legal custodians;
pregnant women and people securing custody of children under 18) and
disability.
The Fair Housing Center of
Lake County provides a 24-hour bi-lingual answering service (847)
336-3247 for residents who may not be able to report
discrimination and/or request services during the Center's regular
office hours of 8:00am to 4:00pm Monday through Friday.
Staff will work with
Latino youths and their families to identify and provide support
through information, referrals and advocacy to assure that a
successful program is provided.
EMPLOYMENT
Worm of Work
SER's World of Work (WOW)
provides at-risk Hispanic youth, ages 14-18, with the skills and
