Our Mission:
SER/Jobs for
Progress, Inc. is a community based Hispanic organization in Lake
County, Illinois committed to improving the quality of life for all
people seeking social, economic and personal development through
education, advocacy, and other development opportunities.
The
agency was founded through a cooperative effort by the American
G.I. Forum and the League of United Latin American citizens
(LULAC). The American G.I. Forum and LULAC are the two oldest
Hispanic organizations in the United States and came into
existence shortly after World War II to provide supportive
assistance to families of Latin American servicemen who served
in the war in their attempts to acquire the educational and
employment services necessary to achieve stability following
the war.
Since the inception of the
organization, SER has been committed to the enhancing the quality of
life for the residents of Lake County by focusing on educational and
vocational services, not only for the Hispanic population, but for
all persons at a social or economic disadvantage. As the needs of
the community have changed, so have the programs of the
organization.
Currently, SER is
providing the following programs:
English as a
Second Language (ESL)
World of Work
(WOW)
Latino Youths
with Disabilities
The Fair
Housing Center of Lake County
Healthcare
Access By Language Advocacy
Vision
for the Future:
For almost thirty years,
through an array of educational and vocational opportunities, SER
has been committed to cultivating Lake County's greatest resource,
the people.
Building upon this
commitment and looking towards the future, SER will continue to
implement and enhance its current initiatives and develop new,
innovative programs that add ross the ever changing needs of the
community.
SER will focus its efforts
on programs that provide opportunities for individuals to realize
and develop their utmost potential, which in turn, not only enhances
the quality of life for many residents of Lake County, but also
contributes to the overall development of Lake County, Illinois as a
healthy, thriving community.
